BRIDGING RESEARCH, INNOVATION AND CARE

A day of interdisciplinary dialogue, shared experiences and visions to inspire new perspectives.

A MULTIDISCIPLINARY PLATFORM FOR CHANGE

How are scientific research, technologies and care pathways for blood cancers changing? What barriers still need to be overcome in access to innovation, the organisation of healthcare services and the delivery of care and support to people?

Following its first edition, BLOOD CANCER SUMMIT returns on 1 October 2026 to continue the dialogue among all the key stakeholders involved in the cancer care system.

An event that brings together science, innovation, professional expertise and artistic storytelling, involving physicians, researchers, nurses, caregivers, patients, institutions, patient associations, companies and artists.

The central theme of the 2026 edition is the CARE PATHWAY: a journey that concerns not only the patient, but all the people who, every day, contribute with expertise, responsibility and humanity to supporting them through the different stages of the disease.

A day of dialogue and participation aimed at transforming experiences, knowledge and different perspectives into new opportunities for improvement.

BLOOD CANCER SUMMIT 2026 aims to:

  • share the latest advances in scientific and clinical research;
  • explore the challenges that remain in hospital and community-based care;
  • foster dialogue between research, clinical needs, healthcare organisation and quality of life;
  • highlight the role of the different professionals and individuals involved in the care pathway;
  • listen to the experiences of patients and the people who support them;
  • turn dialogue into concrete proposals, tools and actions.
BLOOD CANCER SUMMIT 2026 is a Bridge the Gap initiative created by ISHEO, in collaboration with LA LAMPADA DI ALADINO – ETS, with the institutional support of AMA – African Medicines Agency, under the patronage of AIIAO – Associazione Italiana Infermieri di Area Oncologica, F.A.V.O. – Federazione Italiana delle Associazioni di Volontariato in Oncologia, Fondazione GIMEMA – Franco Mandelli Onlus, FIL – Fondazione Italiana Linfomi. The event is made possible thanks to the unconditional support of Gold Sponsor Astellas Pharma S.p.A. and Silver Sponsors AstraZeneca, BeOne Medicines Italy S.r.l., GlaxoSmithKline e Roche S.p.A, with additional support from Daiichi Sankyo.

MISSION & VALUES - The 5 Pillars of the Summit

The mission of the Summit is built upon five pillars:

1
KNOWLEDGE OF SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION:
Presenting the latest advances in scientific research and clinical practice to improve the treatment of blood cancers.

2
BALANCING INNOVATION AND ACCESS:
Reflecting on the ongoing challenge of ensuring timely adoption of innovation, equity of access, and sustainability within healthcare systems.

3
LISTENING TO THE PATIENT:
Creating a space for listening, dialogue, and understanding of the lived experience and perspective of patients and caregivers.

4
COMMUNICATION AND AWARENESS:
Using art, in its various expressive forms, as a language of care and a means of sharing patient experiences and fostering awareness among all those involved in the healthcare ecosystem.

5
COMMITMENT TO CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT:
Transforming reflections and discussions into concrete proposals – guidelines, operational tools, and calls to action – to drive continuous improvement in research and models of care.

THE FORMAT - Evolving, Itinerant, Transformative

BLOOD CANCER SUMMIT is designed as an event that is:

  • Annual and itinerant: held each year in a different city, often in collaboration with national and international centers of excellence;
  • Modular: combining technical-scientific sessions, multidisciplinary discussions, and immersive artistic experiences;
  • Transformative: each edition concludes with a roadmap of progress, featuring measurable indicators to be monitored until the following year.

FROM THE FIRST TO THE SECOND EDITION – We Go On

The first edition of the BLOOD CANCER SUMMIT placed the lived experience of people with blood cancers at the heart of the event, transforming personal stories, faces, and emotions into images and artistic languages. In 2026, the story continues by looking at care from a new perspective.

The second edition gives a voice to those who accompany patients throughout their journey: doctors, nurses, caregivers, and healthcare professionals who face the complexity of the disease every day, build relationships, and turn scientific knowledge into concrete care.

These are not two separate stories, but a single experience observed from different perspectives.

Patients and those who care for them share a space shaped by decisions, listening, waiting, responsibility, fears, and possibilities. BLOOD CANCER SUMMIT 2026 was created to make this relationship visible.

JOIN THE 2026 EDITION

The Blood Cancer Summit 2026 will once again bring together clinicians, researchers, institutions, patient associations, industry representatives, and healthcare professionals to share evidence, experiences, and proposals focused on innovation and access to care in blood cancers.

ART & CARE - Art as the distinctive feature of the Blood Cancer Summit

BLOOD CANCER SUMMIT is unique

In a context dominated by numbers, protocols, and metrics, art restores voice, body, and emotion to the human experience of illness.
It is not a mere accessory but a structural dimension of the Summit – conceived to translate into a universl language what scientific words alone cannot express.

Blood cancers affect not only the body, but also the relationship with oneself, with time, and with others.

Art captures that grey area between diagnosis and lived experience, between medical knowledge and emotional depth.

Within this perspective, the photographic exhibition “IO SONO QUI” (“I AM HERE”) and the the short film “QUI ORA” (“HERE NOW”) are not side elements but instruments of exploration, care, and communication.

The artistic component is based on authentic interviews with patients and caregivers, which serve as the emotional and narrative foundation for:

  • Performative dance: choreographies expressing deep emotions – fear, anger, confusion, resilience, rebirth;
  • Photo exhibition: intense portraits accompanied by quotes, reflections, and brief texts drawn from interviews.

These artistic creations trace a journey that begins with pain and disorientation and leads – through science and clinical progress – to a message of hope and transformation.

A holistic and transformative approach.

Art transcends traditional boundaries between medicine, psychology, communication, and culture, becoming:

  • a therapeutic tool for participants,
  • a vehicle of awareness for observers,
  • a catalyst of empathy for decision-makers and communicators.

Each edition of the Summit, as an experiential event, generates new artistic content to be integrated into educational, cultural, and institutional initiatives.

VIDEO FRAMES – The Language of Art

What makes Blood Cancer Summit truly unique among healthcare events is the combination of scientific rigor with the expressive power of art – dance, visual arts, performance, literature, installations, and film – as means of narrating the human experience of illness.

The patient’s story is not only told but embodied and shared through body, voice, image, and memory.

2026 EDITION

In BLOOD CANCER SUMMIT, art does not represent the disease —
it represents the human being within the disease.

It is what makes the Summit deeply inclusive, emotionally connected, and culturally innovative.
