BRIDGING RESEARCH, INNOVATION AND CARE

A day of interdisciplinary dialogue, shared experiences and visions to inspire new perspectives.

A MULTIDISCIPLINARY PLATFORM FOR CHANGE

What is changing in scientific research and in the technologies used to treat blood cancers?
What barriers still remain in everyday care, in the organization of healthcare services, and in patients’ quality of life?
And, above all, what truly matters to those living with the disease?

BLOOD CANCER SUMMIT was created to address these questions with an integrated and courageous outlook.
By combining science, innovation, and human storytelling, the Summit gives voice to the key actors in care: researchers, clinicians, patients, caregivers, institutions, and artists.

Because talking about blood cancers today means talking about the future – and about hope as a shared choice, a collective responsibility, and a concrete opportunity for transformation.

BLOOD CANCER SUMMIT serves as a platform for dialogue among physicians and researchers, institutions and healthcare managers, industry representatives and patients.
It aims to connect experts and testimonials in a multidisciplinary, inclusive, participatory, and creative environment.

The Summit is an annual event entirely dedicated to the world of blood cancers, with the goal to:

  • Share the latest advances in scientific and clinical research
  • Highlight the still unresolved challenges in hospital and community care
  • Foster connections between research, unmet medical needs, and patients’ quality of life
  • Give genuine space to the voice and experience of those living with a blood cancer
BLOOD CANCER SUMMIT is a Bridge the Gap initiative created by ISHEO, in collaboration with La Lampada di Aladino – ETS, under the patronage of AIIAO – Italian Association of Oncology Nurses, Fondazione GIMEMA – Franco Mandelli ONLUS, F.A.V.O. – Federation of Volunteer Oncology Associations, F.I.L. – Fondazione Italiana Linfomi ETS, and with the support of AIPAMM, AIP LMC, Bianco Airone Pazienti APS, GAL – Gruppo Abruzzese Linfomi, and Linfovita OdV.
The event is made possible thanks to the unconditional support of Gold Sponsors Astellas Pharma S.p.A., AstraZeneca, Roche S.p.A., and Silver Sponsors BeOne Medicines Italy S.r.l., GlaxoSmithKline S.p.A., Johnson & Johnson, Otsuka Pharmaceutical Italy S.r.l., Sobi, with additional support from Pierre Fabre Pharma S.r.l.

MISSION & VALUES - The 5 Pillars of the Summit

The mission of the Summit is built upon five pillars:

1
KNOWLEDGE OF SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION:
Presenting the latest advances in scientific research and clinical practice to improve the treatment of blood cancers.

2
BALANCING INNOVATION AND ACCESS:
Reflecting on the ongoing challenge of ensuring timely adoption of innovation, equity of access, and sustainability within healthcare systems.

3
LISTENING TO THE PATIENT:
Creating a space for listening, dialogue, and understanding of the lived experience and perspective of patients and caregivers.

4
COMMUNICATION AND AWARENESS:
Using art, in its various expressive forms, as a language of care and a means of sharing patient experiences and fostering awareness among all those involved in the healthcare ecosystem.

5
COMMITMENT TO CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT:
Transforming reflections and discussions into concrete proposals – guidelines, operational tools, and calls to action – to drive continuous improvement in research and models of care.

THE FORMAT - Evolving, Itinerant, Transformative

BLOOD CANCER SUMMIT is designed as an event that is:

  • Annual and itinerant: held each year in a different city, often in collaboration with national and international centers of excellence;
  • Modular: combining technical-scientific sessions, multidisciplinary discussions, and immersive artistic experiences;
  • Transformative: each edition concludes with a roadmap of progress, featuring measurable indicators to be monitored until the following year.

THE PROTAGONISTS - An ecosystem of dialogue and co-design

BLOOD CANCER SUMMIT brings together all the voices actively engaged in the fight against blood cancers:

  • Patients and caregivers
  • Researchers, physicians, nurses, pharmacists
  • Policymakers and healthcare institutions
  • Pharmaceutical and biotech companies
  • The scientific and academic community
  • Journalists, communicators, artists, and activists

This multistakeholder approach ensures a plurality of perspectives, shared languages, and the co-design of sustainable solutions.

BLOOD CANCER SUMMIT 2025 is organized by ISHEO, in collaboration with La Lampada di Aladino – ETS, as part of the Bridge the Gap 2025 project.

ART & CARE - Art as the distinctive feature of the Blood Cancer Summit

BLOOD CANCER SUMMIT is unique

In a context dominated by numbers, protocols, and metrics, art restores voice, body, and emotion to the human experience of illness.
It is not a mere accessory but a structural dimension of the Summit – conceived to translate into a universl language what scientific words alone cannot express.

Blood cancers affect not only the body, but also the relationship with oneself, with time, and with others.

Art captures that grey area between diagnosis and lived experience, between medical knowledge and emotional depth.

Within this perspective, the photographic exhibition “IO SONO QUI” (“I AM HERE”) and the the short film “QUI ORA” (“HERE NOW”) are not side elements but instruments of exploration, care, and communication.

The artistic component is based on authentic interviews with patients and caregivers, which serve as the emotional and narrative foundation for:

  • Performative dance: choreographies expressing deep emotions – fear, anger, confusion, resilience, rebirth;
  • Photo exhibition: intense portraits accompanied by quotes, reflections, and brief texts drawn from interviews.

These artistic creations trace a journey that begins with pain and disorientation and leads – through science and clinical progress – to a message of hope and transformation.

A holistic and transformative approach.

Art transcends traditional boundaries between medicine, psychology, communication, and culture, becoming:

  • a therapeutic tool for participants,
  • a vehicle of awareness for observers,
  • a catalyst of empathy for decision-makers and communicators.

Each edition of the Summit, as an experiential event, generates new artistic content to be integrated into educational, cultural, and institutional initiatives.

VIDEO FRAMES – The Language of Art

What makes Blood Cancer Summit truly unique among healthcare events is the combination of scientific rigor with the expressive power of art – dance, visual arts, performance, literature, installations, and film – as means of narrating the human experience of illness.

The patient’s story is not only told but embodied and shared through body, voice, image, and memory.
